*WELCOME*
We welcome newcomers to our worshipping Community. Please take and keep
a copy of our handbook and complete one of the “New
Parishioner” forms. Both can be found at the back of church to
the right of the main door as you go out. Thank you and Welcome.
THE LITURGY -_ WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT? To
the Greeks, a Liturgy was a good work done for the benefit of the whole
Community – building a hospital or a Library. The Liturgos
was the one who did the good work. In Christian times, it
soon became accepted to see that the greatest of all liturgies was that
of Jesus (the greatest of all liturgists) when He gave His life as a
ransom for all in the work of Redemption, carried out for the benefit
of all Mankind. When the Church celebrates the mysteries of the Life,
Death and Resurrection of Jesus, she celebrates liturgy and in doing
so, draws us ever more deeply into the mystery and effectiveness of
Jesus’s continuing Mission to His people. In due time, the
Church’s celebrations became fixed within the context of a
recurring period of twelve months. But this was not as in our own
calendar year, but began with the period of preparation for the Feast
of the Incarnation, Christmas. The Church’s year,
therefore, begins with the first Sunday of Advent and ends (as it will
next week) with the celebration of the Kingship of Christ, which sums
up all the mysteries of Jesus’s Mission. Every
liturgical celebration is therefore a holy and sacred act and we need
to examine ourselves as to how we can or should rightly prepare for
such an act, especially when it is the Mass, the centre and source of
the whole life of the Church.
DIOCESAN PRAYER Father, our Faith is a gift from you. Help us by the power of your Spirit to grow in love, so that we may be faithful to our Baptism, alert to the needs of your world, inspired to proclaim your Word, tireless in upholding justice, hopeful in forming the future. By handing on our Faith as a gift, may we share the hope given us by Jesus your Son. Amen
