In the beginning...

In 2003 Bishop Malcolm McMahon OP organised an Assembly to explain his plans for the future.  Following this event he produced the Diocesan Pastoral Plan which can be read by clicking here.  The plan outlined what Bishop Malcolm wanted to happen in each parish over the next few years.

The plan focused on six key areas

• Communication
• Diocesan Planning and Structures
• Education and Formation
• Evangelisation and Mission
• Liturgy and Worship
• Spirituality

In July 2006 an interim Review of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan,
which detailed progress so far, was produced by Margaret Smidowicz, the Implementation Officer for the Diocesan Pastoral Plan. The Interim Report can be read by clicking here.

Margaret produced the Final Review in 2008. The Final Review can be read by clicking here. At the same time an assembly of parishes across the Diocese took place at the Riverside Centre in Derby.  This assembly which was called "Handing on our Faith" and which was attended by representatives from each parish celebrated the progress that had been made since the Diocesan Pastoral Plan had been published. At the assembly Bishop Malcolm expressed the wish that each Deanery within the Diocese should hold their own Celebration Day in 2009 for all members of parishes within the Deanery.

And Now...

Early in 2009 the Dean of the Loughborough Deanery, Fr Philip Scanlan IC asked each parish to send representatives to take part in the organisation of the Celebration Day. To date (March 2009) the general outline of the day has been agreed and detailed planning will start in April.

There will be a need for many volunteers to help on the day if it is to be a success and in due course a plea for help will be made in each parish.
