The finance group works with the parish priest to monitor St Mary’s finances, tracking income and expenditure against budget. Relevant matters are referred to the Parish Pastoral Council when necessary, particularly prior to the open Parish Annual General Meeting held in October.
Money from the weekend collections is counted and recorded by our Gift Aid organiser who lists the Gift Aided contributions separately from the loose plate money. The Gift Aid organiser prepares quarterly returns which are signed off by the parish priest. These are sent to the Diocesan Finance Office accountants who deal directly with HM Revenue and Customs in claiming the tax refund which is then paid into our parish account.
Our accountant collates the figures for income and expenditure in order to prepare the annual parish Financial Return for the diocese towards the end of June. These figures are then used to produce the financial report submitted with the annual report from the PPC at the parish AGM.
