SAINTS PETER AND PAUL
On 1st July we celebrate the Feast Day of Blessed Antonio Rosmini, the Founder of the Rosminian Order. We invite all our readers to be full of faith when praying that through the intercession of Blessed Antonio Rosmini, Madeleine McCann, who disappeared on the evening of Thursday, 3rd May 2007, in Praia da Luz, a resort in the Algarve region of Portugal, may now return safely to her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann and her twin siblings:
Oh Blessed Antonio Rosmini, through your powerful intercession, grant today the safe return of Madeleine McCann to her parents. Amen.
Please pray this prayer ten times
Fr. Philip Sainter
Who keeps our church looking so beautiful?
Do you ever pause to wonder about the work involved in keeping our Church clean and tidy and enhancing its beauty? Well, every Friday between about 10.00am and 12.30pm (provided there is no morning funeral) a small team of parishioners set to work with dusters, polish, mops and buckets to clean the church ready for the weekend. Some of us have been doing it for years, others joined us more recently, but we do need more members for the team. Those of us who help with the cleaning think it is a wonderful privilege to be in the presence of the Lord during those few hours. Would you be willing to lend your hands to our small team? Just turn up on a Friday morning, and we will show you what to do. You will be made most welcome, even if you can’t stay for the full time. Please consider serving the parish in this vitally important role.
ROSMINI CENTRE: Saturday 6th July, 10.30am for 11.00am. The theme is: “Magisterium and Theologians”, presented by Fr. Ted Mullen, ending at 1.00pm followed by a light lunch. Please register by phoning: 01509 813078. See www.rosminicentre.co.uk for details and directions.
PARISH PICNIC: Didn’t we have a lovely time…? Despite mixed weather conditions, many of St Mary’s and Sacred Heart communities came together, with the Namibia group from De Lisle School, to have an afternoon of fun, food and music last Saturday. The prime objective was to bring people together (Living Stones). The secondary aim was to support parish funds and the De Lisle Namibia fund. We raised £500 to be split between them. Huge thanks to all those who organised and contributed to the enjoyment of the day. Entertainment was provided by Lucy from De Lisle who sang and accompanied herself on guitar, and by a small group of pupils from Sacred Heart and St Mary’s Schools. And of course, our new St Mary’s Singers gave their first public performance, with a medley of songs from Les Misérables. Watch this space for the next event and for the resumption of choir practice, which will probably be in September.
Thank you to all those generous parishioners who provided raffle prizes. We received far more than we expected and used about half. The rest will be stored until the next parish event.
Winning programme prize number (not yet claimed) – 69. Other raffle prizes unclaimed are nos. 228, 61 and 415. Please bring your winning number to the Presbytery to collect your prize!
Finally, thanks to Father Philip for leading us in a truly joyful Mass celebration at the end of the afternoon.
OUR SCRIPTURE AND TRADITION GROUP is taking a break until September when we will be looking at each of the Parables of Jesus and their meanings. So if you’ve ever wondered about their relevance in our lives today, do think about coming, and find out with us!
