As images of the terrible devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan appear on our television screens and in the newspapers, our heart-felt sympathy goes to all the victims and especially to the relatives and friends of the Filipino Community in this parish. In response to the needs of the people in the Philippines there will be a second collection after all Masses this weekend. Alternatively, please make a contribution later, by cheque or cash, in an envelope marked ‘Philippines’ or directly via the St Mary’s website or the Disaster Emergency Committee web site at: www.dec.org.uk
In addition, the profits from both the Mother Mary musical event on Friday 20th December and the Carols by Candlelight on Sunday 22nd December will go towards this appeal.
On 6th December 2013 there will be a Vigil of Prayer in church, following the Filipino Mass, at 7.00pm.
Our Filipino friends inform us of the urgent need for clean light clothing, for people of all ages. The bags of clothing are to be left in the parish hall clearly marked ‘Philippines’.
In solidarity with the members of St Mary’s Filipino community who have family and friends suffering from the effects of the devastation, let us offer our generous support to them in their time of need.
