Readers & Welcomers

Readers of all ages conduct the readings at our main weekend services. A rota system ensures that their duties are always covered.

The readers do not generally meet as a group other than at the annual recommissioning, which is conducted by the parish priest.  However, attendance at rehearsals is usually required for the longer/major services.

The welcomers’ role is to make the church a welcoming place for both parishioners and visitors attending Sunday Mass and other major services.

As well as greeting people at the door, welcomers spend time before each service sorting out hymn books, mass books, newsletters and so on.  They also tidy up after the service.

Welcomers do not generally meet as a group but ensure that they are represented at planning meetings for special occasions. They are always looking for new members to help spread the load.
