Something Special for Advent

Rorate Mass

Rorate Mass at St Mary's. Advent 2019During Advent last year, two Rorate Masses were celebrated at St Mary’s. A Rorate Mass is a Votive Mass in honour of Our Lady during Advent and takes its name from the Advent antiphon Rorate caeli: “Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just. Let the earth be opened and send forth a Savour.” It is celebrated early in the morning only by candlelight. The dawn represents the birth of Christ and, with His coming, the journey from darkness to light. It is very atmospheric and prayerful.
