11 May

Today’s scripture readings marking Christ’s Ascension into Heaven, challenge us to reflect on how we bear witness to our faith and to Jesus.  As we apply the readings to ourselves, let’s try to be like those early disciples who “…worshipped him and then went back to Jerusalem full of joy; and they were continually in the Temple praising God”  (Lk 24:53):Let’s be men and women of prayer who worship Jesus; let’s clap our hands and cry to God.   Let’s not be frightened of bearing witness to our faith.

Fr Philip Sainter

DO YOU FIND LIFE A PUZZLE?  It can be.  Most of us at one time or another have wondered how to cope with hurt, shock, bereavement and disappointment.  Our lives twist and turn, we reach dead ends, and we search for answers.  Jesus is the answer to everything that troubles us.  But are we searching for Him in the right places?  We encounter Him in Holy Mass, in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, in the Scriptures, in prayer, in meditation, in reflection, and in service to others, and sometimes in ‘allowing others’ to render a service to us.  He is our friend, lover, confidante, the one we can trust absolutely, the one who emptied Himself on the cross.  For each one of us.  He is the one who said ‘Father, I want them to be where I am’.  He will never abandon us – we have His word.  Believing that His spirit is everywhere, however, does not mean that we don’t need to come to Mass (it’s easier to pray at home because He’s here too ..) – for it is in the Mass that we meet Him in the closest encounter of our lives – we profess to love Him, and those who love want to be with their beloved, in order to deepen the relationship.
