Today, DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY, two Popes are being canonized:   Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II, Papal Saints of our times.

Both Popes had a conviction shared by Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI that the Church today needs above all to embody the mercy of God. When he opened the Second Vatican Council, Pope John XXIII said that nowadays ‘the Spouse of Christ prefers to make use of the medicine of mercy rather than that of severity’. PopeJohn Paul II dedicated his second encyclical, ‘Dives in Misericordia’, to mercy and proclaimed St Faustina, the Apostle of Divine Mercy, the first saint of the new millennium.  It is therefore wholly fitting that both men are being canonized on Divine Mercy Sunday.’

Also this week Brother Paul Gillham, who many of you will remember was attached to St. Mary’s in July/August last year, is making his final profession (final vows as a Rosminian) at 7pm on Tuesday 29th April at San Giovanni di Porta Latina, Rome.   Please remember him in your prayers.
